On a recent industrial plant job, the contractor needed to distribute power from the main switchboard throughout the site using large submain cables installed on elevated cable trays.
Rather than using traditional copper cable, Electrical Connections supplied FlexAL 240mm² aluminium cable for the installation.
The project achieved cable cost savings of approximately 40-50% compared to a copper solution, helping keep the electrical package within budget. The lighter weight of FlexAL also reduced the labour required to install the cable, with the contractor estimating the installation required around half the manpower of an equivalent copper installation.
Working at height and over long cable tray runs, the reduced weight and flexibility of FlexAL made the cable easier to manoeuvre, reducing installation time and making the job safer and more efficient for the crew.
